Replacing Stem Oil Seals and Inserting Valves

Its been a while since i have updated my build. to be honest not alot has happerned. The block is still away getting bored, honed and compression ratios checked. I have however been working on the head. My first task was to replace the Valve stem oil seals

CA18DET Valve Stem SealsThis is quite an easy task which involves a pair of long nose plyers and a long reach 10 mm socket.

First i just pulled the existing seals out using the plyers keeping in mind not to scrach the head as the surface surrounding the seals is crucial for the hydralic lifters to operate correctly. The seals can be quite difficult but they should just pull out.

Next was the matter of fitting the new seals. For this i used a 10mm socket as seen on the left. Place the new seal into the socket, then just push the new seal into the head where the old one was. You should be able to feel when they are fully in place.

My Next task was refitting the valves which turned out to be VERY tedious. It required using a special tool to push the valve spring down while having to fit 2 locking collars. Fitting these 2 little collers proved the be very difficult and i found using 2 screwdrivers and a small allen key to move the collars into position the easiest method. Once all the valves were in place i tapped each valve to make sure that the collers where correctly placed.

I have also sent alot of the exterior bolts and clips away for electro plating. but more on that next time

Very interesting dude. But I just want to add something to that. First of all you need to clean all the valves before inserting them to give you a better car performance.

Voiding the warranty can also be a problem. Just don't try to open or repair it amongst yourselves if your uncertain of the outcome. In any case, let a knowledgeable person do it.

Doing this needs a lot of effort and right knowledge as well as great courage. Many car owners can't troubleshoot their car's problem because their afraid of handling things like this because it might cause more problem.
